Chinese folklore is rich and varied. Attending a festival and celebrating with the Chinese people are certainly the best ways to become familiar with the authentic Chinese culture. January
New Year's Eve:
All cities in China; dances, music, acrobatics and folk customs
Rime Festival in Jilin:

January - February
Winter Carnival in Harbin, Heilongjiang:

Labrang Monastery Buddhist Assembly in Xiahe, Gansu:
Religious dances, sutra recitations, butter sculptures (Tibetan Festival)
Ta'er Lamasery Assembly in Huangzhong, Qinghai:
Commemoration of Destruction of Death through dance, display of large Buddhist images, butter flowers exhibition, ritual dances and Buddhist scripture chants. (Tibetan Festival)

Lantern Festival in Zigong, Sichuan:

April
Hainan International Coconut Festival in Hainan Island:

Third Day Of The Third Lunar Month Fair:

Qintong Dragon Boat Festival in Yangzhou, Jiangsu:

Guizhou Azalea Festival in Qianxi and Dafang Counties, Guizhou:

Dai Water Splashing Festival in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan:

Peony Fair in Luoyang, Henan:
Display of over 350 varieties of peonies in place where peonies first cultivated 1,400 years ago. Exhibitions of lanterns, paintings, calligraphy and photographs of the flowers.
Chang'an Annual International Calligraphy Fair in Xi'an, Sha'anxi:
Chinese and foreign calligraphers display work, discuss four treasures, visit historic carved stones.
International Kite Festival in Weifang, Shandong:

Mazu Festival in Meizhou island, Fujian:
Birthday of goddess of the sea Mazu, prayers and offerings at shrines.
